My Services:

What is CBT?
How do I start?

Tim specialises in anxiety, panic disorders, and panic attacks, as well as phobias and insomnia. He has 20 years’ experience and prides himself on ensuring clients are put at ease from the very first meeting, allowing progress to begin as soon as possible. He even offers potential clients a free initial one-to-one consultation to make sure they are happy with the sessions before they commit to more. From his wealth of experience, Tim understands that the recovery from any type of anxiety disorder is a very personal journey. He offers a friendly, personalised service to all his clients to help them achieve their goals.

What is CBT?
CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) looks at our thoughts (cognitions) and how they affect our emotions and in turn our behaviour. By understanding what is going on in our thinking, we can overcome and change these cognitions (thoughts) to more helpful ones… This in turn changes our emotions and therefore feelings and perception about situations or things that challenge our peace of mind. If it sounds simple, it is! I use techniques (including Hypnotherapy) that reinforce these new ideas and great change takes place! Knowledge is power! It really works!
Is it the same as counselling?
No, What I do is not the same as counselling. Counselling and other forms of talking therapy have their place but it is not what I do. We work collaboratively to identify what the issues are and maybe what caused them where this is relevant but very quickly after that I am very solution focused in that I am more concerned about offering a solution that really works, is permanent and effective. Like the anacronym SMART; Sustainable – Measurable – Achievable – Realistic and in a Timescale, all my techniques measurably improve things for my clients from the first to the last session and in-between.
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnosis is really only just a place where you are relaxed. Using helpful suggestions (and only those that you choose to accept) Hypnotherapy works by making these suggestions to you when you are in a relaxed place and thereby more readily able to concentrate on accepting new ideas and thoughts. There is a lot of myth around Hypnosis, like the stage hypnotists for example. Don’t worry, I am not going to turn you into a chicken! I would however like a pound for every time I have been asked that one though! Hypnotherapy isn’t something that is “done to you”. It is just a place where you are relaxed and ready to accept suggestions that you choose to do. No one has any power over you and you cannot be made to do anything against your will. It is completely safe and an enjoyable experience. At all times you are fully in control. I use hypnotherapy to reinforce new ideas that we have learnt and adopted and change negative thoughts by suggesting that we turn these to positive ones. Using Hypnotherapy in conjunction with CBT has been proven to be the most effective treatment in cases of anxiety and stress for example. This is the research of many clinical trials and meta trials. All this can be resourced and proven on request.
How many sessions will I need?
Typically, I deal with most issues in five to six sessions. If you think of these sessions like a mini “course” where I will train you to become your own therapist for the future. You will have these skills forever and I guarantee they will add enormous value to your life as skills you can develop and even pass on to others. There will be “homework” to do between sessions and all these add up to a solution. At our first session we will target what we will achieve, together set out a therapy plan and immediately start working towards those therapy goals from the first session. We will measure all along the way our effectiveness and achievements and be prepared to alter our strategy if necessary.
That's all very well but does it really work?
Please read some of my feedback and you will see that yes, it really works. All these comments are from past clients and are verifiable on request. Also, as it is much shorter in time and sessions to achieve your goals than other forms of therapy it is not only more effective but more cost effective! If you don’t give it a try though you will never know! I offer a free consultation by either phone or in person, 20 minutes or so, where we can chat about your specific needs and how we can work together to achieve your therapy goals. There is absolutely no obligation and also, should you be unhappy about the content of our sessions at any time, I offer a full money back guarantee. If it isn’t working for you, you shouldn’t have to pay me! I am also fully insured….
How much does it cost?
That depends on which clinic you see me at…. At my London Clinic in Harley Street I specialise in addiction and this is a separate area with separate fees. If you are visiting me at one of my clinics in Essex then I offer a package of five sessions for £400. If we do need a sixth session this is charged pro-rata. I take credit or debit cards, bank transfer or cash. Individual sessions are £90. If you need to change or cancel your appointment I will require 48 hours’ notice by text or email. Sessions are 50 minutes to an hour. I ask that you arrive five minutes before your session and not before! This is because I work on my own and if you are too early I can’t answer the door if I am with a client!
